Pearl the Squirrel

When you hear the word squirrel, what comes to your mind? Words like jumping, running, and climbing are the most familiar. But did you know that there are three types of squirrels? The squirrel family includes tree squirrels, ground squirrels, and flying squirrels. Pearl is a tree squirrel. She eats seeds, nuts, and fruit. Even when it is cold, she can find food buried under a foot of snow. Her favorite thing to do is jump. She has padded feet that help when she jumps from tree to tree. Pearl is also a very smart squirrel. She can remember where she buries her food and always knows the fastest way to get from tree to tree. She is my friend, but my mother says I should not pet her because she just might bite.

Lesson 7

Sight Word Match Game

Instructions:  You will play a matching game. There are sets of cards lying face down. All of the cards have a matching card, so there are two of each word in the set.

Your goal is to match all of the cards. You will pick one card, turn it over so it is face up, and you will read it out loud. Then you will pick a second card, turn it over so it is face up, and read it out loud. If the two cards are the same word, then you take them out and start again with another two cards.

If they are not the same word, you will turn them over so they are face down and then you will start again with two more cards. Once you have matched all of the cards and they are all face up, you win the game.”

Lesson 8
